DISINFO: Romania and Hungary have territorial claims to Ukraine

SUMMARY

The Romanians are demanding – yes, this is the idea of “Great Romania” – to get back the territories seized by the Soviet Union: Northern Bukovina that is now the part of Chernivtsi region, Ukraine. And then the South Bessarabia, which is part of Odessa region and Moldova. The Hungarians demand part of Transcarpathia, where 150 thousand Hungarians live now. [—] there is no Ukrainian identity there […]. It does not exist. 85 percent of people living there are ethnic Russians […]. The majority of the Ukrainian population is ethnic Russians.

RESPONSE

This is recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation as neither Romania or Hungary claims any territory of Ukraine. The 2001 Ukrainian census found out that there were only 17,3% [not 85%] of those Ukrainian citizens, who identified themselves as ethnic Russians.
