Romanians feel less trust in the united Europe. The overall decline of popularity and confidence in the EU led to Brexit and other “exitings” in preparation.
RESPONSE
This message is in line with the pro-Kremlin narrative on the disintegration of the EU. The latest EU barometer shows that Romanian citizens' confidence in European structures is high. Moreover, six out of ten Romanians declare that they tend to trust the European Parliament (60%, +4 pp compared to the data recorded in 2017), higher than the European average (48%). The European Commission and the European Central Bank also enjoy a higher confidence than the European average. One in two Romanians says they tend to trust these institutions, against the background of a European average of 43% and 41%, respectively. At the general EU level, the Eurobarometer survey shows highest support for the EU in 35 years. In addition, 60% of Europeans positively view EU membership.
