DISINFO: RT and Sputnik repeatedly being accused without evidence

SUMMARY

Western countries have repeatedly accused the Russian networks RT and Sputnik of publishing "false materials", without providing any evidence to support these accusations.

RESPONSE

A pro-Kremlin narrative to whitewash its media while trying to portray Russian outlets as truthful despite its evident manipulations and promotion of disinformation.

Our platform, EUvsDisinfo, was established in late 2015 to identify, compile, and exposes disinformation cases originating in pro-Kremlin outlets that are spread across the EU and Eastern Partnership countries.

EUvsDisinfo’s database currently consists of more than 12400 samples of pro-Kremlin disinformation messages, mainly from Sputnik and RT, with Germany receiving the lion's share of disinformation targeting the EU members.

Read similar cases which claim that only Russian outlets tell the truth; or that French authorities called to boycott Sputnik and RT; or that there is a Western pressure campaign against Russian media; or that Russia does not need to take part in the information war; or that US senators and Macron accused Sputnik and RT of election interference with no evidence; or that RT and Sputnik are more popular than Western Media.

Disclaimer

Cases in the EUvsDisinfo database focus on messages in the international information space that are identified as providing a partial, distorted, or false depiction of reality and spread key pro-Kremlin messages. This does not necessarily imply, however, that a given outlet is linked to the Kremlin or editorially pro-Kremlin, or that it has intentionally sought to disinform. EUvsDisinfo publications do not represent an official EU position, as the information and opinions expressed are based on media reporting and analysis of the East Stratcom Task Force.
