DISINFO: Russia does not allow Kyiv to organise Holodomor in Ukraine
SUMMARY
Kyiv and the West are trying quickly to pull out of Ukraine last year's grain harvest, 25 millions tons of which is stored mostly in the Odessa region.
Zelenskyy from Kyiv shouts about the need to withdraw all this grain from Ukraine. The Germans echo him, UN Secretary General Guteres declares the need to put this grain on world markets in order to prevent starvation. Even old Biden across the ocean woke up and said something similar from the high American podium. None of them cares about the question of what, in fact, the inhabitants of Ukraine itself will eat if all the stocks are swept clean.
So far, the Russian army and navy, which control the Ukrainian Black Sea coast, remain the only guarantor against the coming famine on the lands of Ukraine.
[...]
Mentally, Zelenskyy and his team have already said goodbye to the population of their country, placing the responsibility to feed it and take care of it on the "aggressor country" and guided by the logic "the worse, the better."
RESPONSE
Pro-Kremlin disinformation message about food security in Ukraine.
Russian war ships are blocking Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea, preventing the export of grain, which poses a risk to global food supply chains. According to the UN's World Food Programme (UNWFP):
The crisis is another fallout from the war, which began on 24 February 2022.
The UNWFP also said, that ports in the Odesa area of southern Ukraine must be re-opened urgently to prevent the global hunger crisis from spinning out of control.
Ukraine is one of the world’s top agricultural producers and exporters. Before the Russian invasion on 24 February 2022, most of the food produced by Ukraine – enough to feed 400 million people – was exported through the country’s seven Black Sea ports, according to an estimate from the World Food Programme.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has destabilised global food markets and is driving food prices up due to increased cost of production, transport and freight insurance. Russia has destroyed substantial food stocks, production, as well as processing and transport capacities in Ukraine, and continue to block Black Sea trade routes, which prevent the export of Ukrainian grain.
The EU is a leading humanitarian and development donor in food security and is spearheading international efforts with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the UN Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
In December 2021, the EU has pledged €2.5 billion for 2021-2024 to reduce all forms of malnutrition at the Nutrition for Growth Summit in Tokyo.
Pro-Kremlin outlets have consistently engaged in historical revisionism regarding Holodomor, a man-made famine deliberately caused by Stalin with the aim of removing a perceived Ukrainian threat to the Soviet regime. At least 15 UN member states and the Vatican state recognise the Holodomor as an act of genocide in Ukraine. The European Parliament and PACE have recognised the Holodomor as a crime of the Soviet regime against their own people and a crime against humanity.
