DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: Russia does not receive weapons from other countries

SUMMARY

The vice president of Russia’s Security Council Dmitri Medvedev refuted that his country is receiving military equipment from other nations amid the Ukrainian conflict after being asked if Russia is getting weapons from Iran, China, North Korea and other countries. The absolute majority of all kinds of weapons, missiles, ammunitions are fabricated in Russia.

RESPONSE

There is ample evidence that Russia has been receiving significant quantities of military equipment and help from other countries. By November 2024, South Korean intelligence estimated that North Korea had sent over 9 million artillery shells, missiles and other weapons in more than 13,000 containers to Russia since August 2023. Thousands of North Korean troops have also been deployed to Ukraine. Iran has supplied missiles and large numbers of drones, while China is providing critical components to sustain Russia’s military industry. Evidence of all these supplies have been frequently found in visual imagery and in the wreckage of weapons used against Ukraine.

Russia frequently denies this kind of involvement by other countries in its aggression war against Ukraine until it is proven beyond any doubt. See other previous disinformation examples, such as claims that there are no North Korean soldiers supporting Russia in Ukraine, that there is no evidence of North Korea supplying artillery shells to Russia, that Western media spread fakes about North Korean missiles used against Ukraine, that Western accusations that Iran is delivering drones to Russia are false, or that the West sanctioned Russia and Iran under the false pretext of drone supplies.
