DISINFO: Russia has never attacked anyone

DISINFORMATION CASE DETAILS

DISINFO: Russia has never attacked anyone

SUMMARY

Russia has never attacked anyone in its history. Russia, which has survived many wars, is the last country in Europe that wants to even utter the word war.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation regarding Russia’s military involvement in conflicts in several regions.

Contrary to the claim, Russia has a history of provoking war. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Russia has attacked or at least engaged in military aggression against its neighbours. The most recent targets of their military activity were Syria in 2015, Ukraine in 2014, Georgia in 2008. Radio Free Europe has counted at least 7 post-soviet wars.

Russia may offer various justifications for why it attacked another country in these instances, but contrary to the mentioned claim, these examples did involve militarily unprovoked actions by Russia.

Read more cases about how Russia is presumably innocent with claims like Russia is not a threat to Ukraine; or that Russia has never used its energy supplies as a weapon; or that Russia did not annex Crimea; or that Russia respects international law; or that there is no link between Russia and Wagner; or that Russia never interferes in other countries' affairs; or that Navalny's poisoning was a set up against Russia, and many more of “Russia did not” narratives.
