DISINFO: Russia never rejected a peaceful solution in Ukraine, Kyiv refuses to negotiate

SUMMARY

Russia has never rejected a peaceful solution to the situation in Ukraine. Russia always talk about it. Moreover, Russia initialled this document during the talks. Kyiv just threw it away afterwards, that's all.

RESPONSE

A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that Ukraine is not interested in peace talks. Pro-Kremlin disinformation has systematically instrumentalized the narrative that Russia wants peace in Ukraine, but, as evidenced by Russia's actions in Ukraine, such statements are merely empty PR stunts deployed to garner support for Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy told CNN that Ukraine is not willing to give up territory in the eastern part of the country to end the war with Russia.

Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are beyond doubt, Zelenskyy stated in an address to the nation.

Russia does not hide its plans to occupy part of the territory of Ukraine, from Donbas to the borders of Moldova, thereby linking Crimea to Transnistria.

As far as peace negotiations are concerned, the EU Council Conclusions of 09 February 2023 state clearly:

"Russia must stop this atrocious war immediately. The European Union will stand by Ukraine with its steadfast support for as long as it takes."

The EU supports Ukraine’s initiative for a just peace, including:

- President Zelenskyy’s peace formula

- Ukraine’s 10-point peace plan

- a peace formula summit.
