DISINFO: Russian are liberators and a peace-making people

SUMMARY

Throughout its history, Russia has been a peacemaker country, a saviour country, and a protector country for entire peoples and nations. The DNA code of the Russian person contains such things as mercy, compassion and empathy. The Russian people can’t do anything else – it’s inside them, it’s an integral part of the Slavic soul.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about peace and Russian superiority and exceptionalism, an alleged Russian soul or Russian particular path.

There is no such thing as "Russian DNA," even though the Kremlin has been promoting this idea in recent years. The Russian Federation includes over 39 nationalities, making it the largest multinational state. Moreover, there are more than 190 ethnic groups, making the idea of a "Russian DNA" absurd. The state programme "DNA of Russia" is a collection of patriotic disinformation material that promotes the idea of “Russian world” exceptionalism surrounded by enemies and has no connection to biological DNA.

The fact that the Russian Empire or the Soviet Union participated in humanitarian actions in the past does not mean that today’s Russian state is inevitably striving for peace. Since the full-scale military invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has caused more harm to civilian populations than it can repair with humanitarian aid. The destruction of Mariupol alone resulted thousands of deaths. Russia has been inverting the narrative about peacemakers and warmongering. It has long sought to co-opt and appropriate the peace narrative, portraying its war of colonial conquest in Ukraine as a noble quest for peace.
