DISINFO: Russian origin of the men charged with spying in Germany is the only evidence of Russian state involvement

SUMMARY

Sinister Russian saboteurs were allegedly preparing attacks on military transport routes in Germany. Both those detained are Russian Germans. Apparently, this is the only evidence on the basis of which Berlin decided, in advance, that Putin was behind everything.

RESPONSE

This disinformation follows the arrest of two alleged spies planning to sabotage German military aid for Ukraine in the southern German state of Bavaria.

According to German prosecutors, there is substantial material to back the case: Dieter S is believed to have discussed potential sabotage operations in Germany with his Russian contact since October last year, in an attempt to undermine its support for Ukraine.

They are cited for preparing explosives and planning arson attacks, particularly targeting military and industrial infrastructure. Dieter S is said to have scouted potential targets including US military facilities, taking photos and videos and handing the information to a Russian contact. The BBC reports that a US Army facility at Grafenwöhr in Bavaria was spied on.

The suspects have been in Germany since the end of 2023, they were investigated by the German Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Spiegel adds.
