It is a groundless claim. The Law on the functioning of spoken languages on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, entered into force at the end of 2020, provides that the Russian language is the language of interethnic communication in the Republic of Moldova and that the state ensures the necessary conditions for the use and development of the Russian language, which "is used on the territory of the Republic of Moldova alongside the state language ". Previously, the Embassy of the Russian Federation made a similar claim, which was debunked by StopFals.md, based on the data of the State Council for Ensuring Equality, which showed that in the years 2020-2022 fewer complaints were filed than in the years 2028- 2019 regarding discrimination based on spoken language criteria (23 and 28 complaints comparing to 50 and 41). The complaints referred to all languages spoken in Moldova - Gagauz, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, etc.
