DISINFO: Russians and Ukrainians are one people
SUMMARY
The collective West follows the principle of “divide et impera” (divide and rule); that is why they invented differences between Taiwan and Mainland China, and between Ukraine and Mother Russia.
Today, Ukraine faces a choice: to stand with Russia or to disappear from the world map. [Russia's] task is to help the people of Little Russia and Novorossia build Ukraine without “Ukrainianism” and to strengthen the belief that Russia is irreplaceable for Ukraine, culturally, linguistically, and politically.
Russians and Ukrainians are one people. Attempts to drive a wedge between them from a historical point of view are absolutely untenable and criminal. Vygovskys, Mazepas, Skoropadskys, and Banderas, in different years, smashed their heads against the All-Russian wall. It will be like that from now on.
RESPONSE
Recurrent pro-Kremlin narratives negating the Ukrainian nation and depicting a mythical collective West as having a belligerent and hostile anti-Russian agenda, portraying it as a common enemy.
This argument was developed in an essay published by Russia’s Foreign Ministry, written by Dmitry Medvedev after a visit to China and talks with Chinese leaders. The essay draws parallels between Russia and China and describes the collective West as their common enemy, allegedly trying to destroy them. The Russian war effort and economy need increased Chinese support, especially with uncertainties in the coming weeks due to the inauguration of a new US presidential administration.
The idea that Ukraine does not exist, that Ukrainians are “Little Russians” and therefore part of the Russian nation, and that those who do not support this project must perish, is a negation of the Ukrainian nation with a genocidal perspective. Ukrainian children have massively been deported to Russian Federation and are in the process of being forcibly Russified.
Ukrainians and Russians are two distinct people, despite multiple attempts of the Kremlin to deny it. Ukraine is a well-defined nation-state with a long history and its literature and identity, despite foreign rule for long periods. Ukrainians and Russians belong to the Slavs ethnolinguistic group, but they are not a single nation. The "all-Russian big nation" is an imperial Russian and Russian revanchist ideology that is a favoured pro-Kremlin narrative aimed at weakening the national identity of Ukrainians, as well as undermining the state sovereignty. The Ukrainian people are fighting not for the interests of the West but for their sovereignty and freedom against brutal and unprovoked Russian aggression. Ukraine is acting in self defence against the Russian invasion as enshrined in the UN Charter Article 51. The West supports Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter.
