DISINFO: Russians in Ukraine became the victims of fascism and genocide by Ukrainian Nazis
SUMMARY
After the Western-inspired coup in Kyiv, Russians and Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine became the victims of fascism and genocide by Ukrainian Nazis and their Jewish accomplices. And what is the West doing – fighting fascism and genocide by the Ukrainian authorities against Russians? No, of course not. The article advanced a pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the alleged genocide of ethnic Russians in Ukraine. The genocide narrative has been an integral part of the pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign aiming to justify the full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022.
The idea that Ukraine is committing genocide against its own population is promoted by Vladimir Putin in his speeches. Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction of a group of people because of their ethnicity, nationality, religion, or race.
There is no evidence that either ethnic Russians or Russian speakers are facing persecution at the hands of the Ukrainian authorities, much less the danger of annihilation on grounds of nationality, ethnicity, or cultural belonging. This has been confirmed by reports issued by the Council of Europe, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the OSCE.
In 2014, there was neither a coup nor a western orchestrated protest in Ukraine; this is a longstanding pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Ukraine's Euromaidan. The spontaneous onset of the Euromaidan protests was a reaction by numerous segments of the Ukrainian population to former President Viktor Yanukovych’s sudden departure from the promised Association Agreement with the European Union in November 2013.
