DISINFO: Secret NATO exercise Steadfast Noon 2021 aims to turn Europe into Hiroshima

SUMMARY

NATO's secret exercise Steadfast Noon 2021 aims to turn Europe into Hiroshima. The United States is working out the option of "saving" European allies and partners from the "Russian threat" by the thermonuclear bombing of the territory of the Old World.

Since there is no real threat, and the American thermonuclear bombs B61 are in the arsenals of Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey, then Washington can "kill" Europe on a far-fetched occasion at any time.

RESPONSE

A disinformation narrative about the NATO-led exercise Steadfast Noon 2021.

NATO annual deterrence exercise “Steadfast Noon” started on 18 October 2021, it is a routine, recurring training activity and it is not linked to any current world events. Steadfast Noon involves training flights with dual-capable fighter jets, as well as conventional jets, backed by surveillance and refuelling aircraft. No live weapons are used. This exercise helps to ensure that NATO’s nuclear deterrent remains safe, secure and effective.

At the NATO Summit in June 2021, Allied Heads of State and Government declared in Communiqué (41-45) “the fundamental purpose of NATO's nuclear capability is to preserve peace, prevent coercion, and deter aggression”.

Since the end of the Cold War, the number of nuclear weapons available to NATO in Europe has been reduced by around 90 per cent. The remaining weapons were headed for withdrawal had it not been for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2014. Given Russia’s aggressive actions and military build-up in recent years and increasing non-strategic nuclear arsenal, NATO has since reemphasized the importance of the U.S. tactical nuclear weapons in Europe.
