DISINFO: Europe is mortal, but only the Europe embodied by its current liberal elites

SUMMARY

Macron and similar demagogues across the continent, in the light of the European elections on June 9, are hoping to reassemble Europe from its previous elements, hoping to get something qualitatively different that the whole world will force itself to respect. But why should this happen?

In recent years, liberal hegemony has been established in the West, which has made the world a worse place. This world order has produced leaders who are unable to cope with the task at hand and who make mistake after mistake.

It’s very bad that the head of the European Commission has stained herself with corruption, and what’s worse is that the European Parliament has still not condemned this theft.

Von der Leyen probably won’t go to prison, but her chances of heading the list of the centrist People’s Party, which could prolong her tenure, are highly questionable, as are the prospects of the centrists themselves, who are being pressured by the right.

Thus, the President of France is partly right - Europe is mortal, but only the Europe embodied by its current liberal elites is mortal. They are clinging desperately to life, visibly transforming into their own opposite.

RESPONSE

Recurrent disinformation narrative on the liberal values or European values. See also Demonic Western civilisation is leading humanity straight into abyss. This narrative targets the upcoming EU elections and accuses the European Union of corruption and a lack of democracy.

The disinformation outlet does not provide evidence that the head of the EU Commission is 'corrupt'. Ursula von der Leyen is a frequent target of the pro-Kremlin disinformation.

Amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine, pro-Kremlin outlets often use unfounded conspiracy theories to discredit the West, accusing 'global liberal élites' of deliberately destroying societies and of provoking the Russia's war in Ukraine

Analysts and researchers have pointed out that anti-Western conspiracy theories about all-powerful secret elites are a political tool used by the Kremlin to meddle in the EU elections, as well as to strengthen the domestic stability of the current regime and expand its influence abroad by emphasising Russia’s moral superiority.

Citizens of the member states feel involved as the December 2023 Autumn Eurobarometer survey indicated that:

- 70% of citizens acknowledged that the EU has an impact on their daily lives

- 72% think that their country has benefited from EU membership

- 57% of citizens are interested in the 2024 European elections

- 68% said they would be likely to vote if the European elections were held next week.
