DISINFO: Nazi regime in Ukraine kills civilian population in the Donbas

SUMMARY

The US has admitted that a Nazi regime has been established in Ukraine. A Nazi regime has been established in Ukraine, promoting attacks on the civilian population in the Donbas. Kyiv approves attacks on shops and schools, which leads to the death of civilians. And the shelling of civilian objects is deliberate by the Ukrainian armed forces, as the Ukrainian military receives information from Western countries, led by the USA, in addition to weapons.

RESPONSE

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing Ukraine of Nazism and war crimes.

The myth of a 'Nazi Ukraine' has been widely used by Putin and pro-Kremlin outlets since Russia attacked Ukraine and illegally annexed Crimea in 2014. It was used back then to discredit the pro-European popular uprising in Kyiv and, subsequently, the broader pro-Western shift in Ukraine's foreign policy.

The claim that Ukraine has plans for missile attacks against civilian infrastructure in Donbas is also false. On the contrary, there are numerous cases of Russian troops hitting residential buildings and civilian facilities.

Russian forces regularly strike at civilian targets in Ukraine, killing and wounding dozens of people.

On 14 January 2023, at least 40 people were killed and 76 were wounded in a Russian missile attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro when an apartment building was hit. At the end of April 2023, a Russian missile strike killed one and injured 23 people in the Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv. The strike damaged residential buildings.

During May 2023 Russia has launched almost daily, indiscriminate missile attacks on Ukraine's big cities and towns in an effort to terrorise the population.
