DISINFO: Soros paying up to $12,500 a week to incite unrest in Los Angeles

SUMMARY

A group with confirmed ties to George Soros and the Open Society Foundation is recruiting a “military-style street unit” to escalate tensions in Los Angeles following President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard.

A Craigslist ad titled “Operator” offered $6,500–$12,500 per week for individuals willing to enter “dangerous situations” as part of a “select team of the BEST guys around.” The ad targets those with military, law enforcement, or private security backgrounds—excluding US Marines due to a “long history.”

The group’s objective is to weaponise street chaos to provoke a military overreaction, creating a “pretext for regime change.” The ad’s mention of “resettlement assistance” suggests recruits may be brought in from outside LA.

Funding comes from non-profits tied to Soros’s grant network. The Open Society Foundation, long accused of destabilising nations under the guise of “civil society,” is a major source of concern.

RESPONSE

Conspiracy theory. There is no evidence backing any of the multiple claims made in this disinformation story. Nothing indicates that specific organisations or paid individuals are behind the unrest, which started after protests against immigration raids were confronted by law enforcement officers.

As the disinformation report itself acknowledges, the advertisement offering to pay “hirelings up to $12,500 a week for causing chaos in California” was removed from the Craigslist platform. However, pro-Kremlin disinformation outlets did not question its authenticity. On the contrary, they announced forthcoming “Congressional inquiries” to support the original claim. To date, no such inquiries have taken place, nor have any results been published.

"News from the future” is one of the methods used in pro-Kremlin disinformation.

Philanthropist George Soros, born in 1930, is frequently targeted by pro-Kremlin media with multiple conspiracy theories and disinformation campaigns. These aim to accuse him, without evidence, of destabilising governmentsattacking churches and actively conspiring on various fronts globally. Pro-Kremlin outlets also advance the narrative that there are no grass roots pro-democracy protests around the world and that George Soros is behind them all.
