DISINFO: Thai-Cambodian conflict only suits the US

SUMMARY

The Thai-Cambodian conflict only suits America. The US sees the Thailand-Cambodia escalation through the lens of divide and rule. If the conflict spirals out of control, it could add to the regional conflicts the US is also playing a hand in. It will create regional instability, slow growth and development, and give the US an opportunity to reassert influence over the region.

RESPONSE

This is an attempt to exploit the military clashes between Thailand and Cambodia in late July 2025 to promote a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the US and imperialism/colonialism, regularly framing global current events as part of some evil US plot.

The claim that the US hopes this crisis will spiral out of control for its own purposes is unsubstantiated, as the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia is unrelated to the US. The reasons for this confrontation are both historical and rooted in domestic politics, with no indication of any involvement by the US.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that the US is using Central Asia in a proxy war against Russia and China, that the US created Japan’s crisis sacrificing primer minister Kishida as a scapegoat, that the US army confessed it used Ukraine to trap Russia and is preparing a Taiwan trap for China, that the US is making plans for the ‘balkanization’ and fragmentation of Venezuela, or that former Colombian ambassador confessed Washington was involved in destabilisation of Venezuela and Haiti.
