DISINFO: The Baltic states are not capable of being independent and sovereign
SUMMARY
In USSR times, the Baltic states were more developed than nowadays. After their independence was proclaimed, the Baltic states were cheaply bought to be used against Russia. The Baltic states may even disappear within 50 years. Their indigenous population is emigrating to other countries. These quasi states are not capable of being independent and sovereign neither from an economic or political perspective.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative denying the Soviet occupation of the Baltic States, also consistent with disinformation narratives about socio-economic degradation in the Baltic States as opposed to their alleged well-being under the USSR, lost sovereignty/external control, and ubiquitous Russophobia.
The Baltic states are sovereign countries, which determine their domestic and foreign policies. They are full-fledged members of the EU and NATO and therefore follow their membership commitments. Their post-Soviet economic development is documented by the OECD, with details available here for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Pro-Kremlin media routinely accuse the Baltic States of hostility towards Russia. All steps to strengthen the security of Baltic states are linked to the aggressive behaviour of Russia toward its neighbours, including the illegal annexation of Crimea and Russian armed aggression in Ukraine.
Read similar cases alleging that Russophobic Baltic States are beggars and vassals of the West, that the main activity of the Latvian state is the trade of Russophobia, and that the Baltic states are dying because they chose not to be with Russia, and that the Baltic states have lost industry, agriculture, and population as a result of EU membership.
