DISINFO: The collective West supports terrorism and separatism to fight Russia

SUMMARY

The collective West has supported separatism and terrorism as tools to fight Russia. No one wanted to pay attention to ISIS if it operates in Russia. The explosions in Moscow and everything else that happened recently was caused by Western sponsored terrorism.

RESPONSE

This disinformation story aims to portray Russia as fighting terrorism while advancing recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about Western countries as sponsoring terrorism to destabilise Russia.

This message is also part of a recurrent narrative alleging that the Europe, United States and its NATO partners have established many terrorist organisations and control global terrorism.

Ever since the September 11 terrorist attacks, the US and and Europe have been engaged in an enormous military and intelligence effort to counter Al Qaeda, ISIS and other radical Islamist terrorist groups around the world.

The US has been acting as the leader of the global coalition to defeat Daesh/ISIS, and has invested massive resources and efforts for years to fight Al Qaeda.

Read similar cases claiming that The West is supporting terrorists to encircle Russia, that the US is transporting ISIS members to Afghanistan; or that extremists and Nazis are being trained in Ukraine to act in Belarus.
