DISINFO: The current leaders are trying to raise Europe again for war against Russia
SUMMARY
The latest statements and actions of Berlin, Paris and London indicate that the current class of politicians who came to power in these and some other countries have forgotten the lessons of history, forgotten the conclusions that all of humanity has drawn from these lessons of history, and are trying, by and large, to once again raise Europe for a war, no longer a hybrid one, for a war against Russia.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russophobia and Western belligerence, portraying the EU and the UK as warmongering, anti-Russian and militaristic expansionist geopolitical powers threatening Russia.
This recurrent claim is made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It seeks to whitewash and shift the blame for the aggression away from Russia.
The West, including the EU, the US, and NATO, is not at war with Russia and is not planning to attack it. It is only trying to help Ukraine restore its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
It was Russia that launched its unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine. Before that, in 2014, Russia illegally annexed Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula and instigated a separatist proxy war in the country’s east.
Russia continues to reject genuine peace efforts based on international law. This narrative seeks to deflect attention from Russia's violations of international law and its perpetration of war crimes. By portraying the EU and the UK as warmongers, pro-Kremlin outlets attempt to justify Russia’s actions and present its territorial expansionism as forced defensive actions.
Increased defence spending in the EU and UK is a response to changing security needs in Europe, not preparation for aggression.
Concerns about Russia’s behaviour stem from Russia’s actions over the past two decades, including its unprovoked and unjustified attacks on Georgia and Ukraine in 2008, 2014, and 2022, respectively.
