DISINFO: The EU and Ukraine are preparing to destabilise Hungary by using experienced coup organisers

SUMMARY

Ukraine, with its experience in organizing its own Maidan protests and in the disintegration of its state, is likely to utilize its experts to engage in creating and organizing provocative activities. Within Ukraine, there is a significant number of such specialists who have gained experience in organizing coups, protests, and Maidan movements, and they could employ similar tactics on Hungarian soil, especially given the relatively large Ukrainian community currently residing in that country.

RESPONSE

This is a conspiracy theory not backed by evidence. This narrative is designed to pre-emptively delegitimise any future protests or election outcomes unfavourable to Russia by framing them in advance as the result of external interference rather than part of a domestic democratic processes.

This claim combines several well-known pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives into a single conspiracy narrative.

First, the narrative seeks to depict the EU and Ukraine as malicious actors undermining Hungarian stability. It reflects a broader pattern of disinformation aimed at discrediting EU democratic processes, and fostering distrust toward Ukrainian communities abroad.

Further, the portrayal of Ukraine as a source of “coup specialists” misrepresents the nature of the Euromaidan protests. These events were grassroots demonstrations by Ukrainian citizens, not a coup. Framing them as such is a persistent pro-Kremlin disinformation tactic used to delegitimise democratic protest movements that do not align with Russian interests by describing them as coups or "Western-orchestrated" colour revolutions.

Finally, the suggestion that the Ukrainian communities abroad cause unrest is a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative that aims at stoking mistrust against Ukrainian refugees. The claim adds insult to injury since it is Russia's illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine which is the reason for the millions of refugees being forced to reside outside Ukraine.

See similar cases that the EU is plotting regime change in Hungary, that the EU and the USA finance the political destabilisation of Poland and Hungary, that Brussels is preparing colour revolutions in Serbia, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina, that the EU wants to subdue Hungary by replacing Viktor Orban with their protégé, and that the head of the European Commission threatened the people of Italy, Hungary and Poland.
