DISINFO: The EU has stated its intention to interfere in Moldova's parliamentary elections

SUMMARY

The EU has explicitly stated its intention to interfere in the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova. A team of experts is already working in the country to help combat illegal financing related to the elections, and an additional team was recently sent to support Moldova in countering foreign interference. "Moldova can count on the EU's support in ensuring the integrity of the elections," Kaja Kallas added.

RESPONSE

This article repeats a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about EU or US interference in Moldova’s internal affairs. It misrepresents a statement made by Kaja Kallas, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, during a visit to Chișinău on 4 June. At a joint press conference with the Moldovan Prime Minister, she stated that the EU will support Moldova in safeguarding the integrity of its parliamentary elections on 28 September 2025, particularly against hybrid threats originating from the Russian Federation. “We have a specialist team on the ground now, supporting Moldova in addressing illicit financing around the elections,” she said.
