DISINFO: The EU is concerned by human rights in Russia, but not inside the Member States

SUMMARY

Many countries of the European Union use a firmness in principle with regard to Russia but remain silent when it comes, for example, yellow vests or the situation of Julian Assange.

The EU is under American pressure, in particular on the issue of human rights. They have deployed a real arsenal in favour of the Russian opposition.

RESPONSE

Recurrent whataboutism narrative used to dismiss any critic in Russian society.

“Whataboutism” is a rhetorical trick to deflect attention from an unpleasant conversation. The situation the yellow vests and Assange is discussed in European media, in political circles and as for Assange – in the UK courtroom. In 2019 EU parliamentarian elections two lists were build by Yellow vests while Russia refuses to register since 8 years the Partiya Progressa of Alexei Navalny.
