DISINFO: The EU is not capable of peace, it is only interested in waging war
SUMMARY
[...T]he EU is diametrically opposed to peace in Europe. The EU is anything but a peaceful alliance of states.
However, the only means by which this perception [...] could be created under these conditions is war. This means that it is not only the subordination to US interests that makes the Brussels apparatus act so aggressively; it is also the bureaucratic self-interest that such apparatuses generate of their own accord. The US interest is embodied in the choice of the enemy, not in the fact that an enemy is actively sought.
The entire EU policy has become steadily more ideologised since the Lisbon Treaty; starting with the drivel about ‘European values’ and ending with today's blatant hostility towards the outside world, which can be found, for example, in Josep Borrell's image of the ‘garden’ and the ‘jungle’ (incidentally, a metaphor deeply rooted in Spain's colonialist ideology). Since the origin of this hostility lies in the self-interests of this apparatus, it cannot be mitigated or moderated by reason. The only solution would be to reverse the process or to smash this structure outright. It is not inherently capable of peace because peace threatens its growth and ultimately its very existence.
RESPONSE
A recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the West, specifically the EU of warmongering. This baseless claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and is presented without any supporting evidence.
One of the aims of the EU is to promote peace, its values and the well-being of its citizens within its borders. It is a political project that was created in the aftermath of the Second World War, with the aim of ending the frequent and bloody conflicts that culminated in it. In 2012, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the EU on the grounds that the organisation had advanced peace, reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe.
The war in Ukraine broke out in 2014 when Russia illegally annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea and instigated a separatist revolt in some regions in the east of Ukraine. On 24 February 2022, Russia began its unprovoked and unjustified full invasion of Ukraine under several false pretexts.
Some EU member states the US and other G7 nations are providing Ukraine with military and technical assistance to help it repel Russia's aggression and restore its sovereignty over its internationally recognised borders of 1991.
Ukraine is acting in self-defence, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter. Ukraine is not planning to occupy any Russian territories after it liberates its lands from temporary Russian occupation.
European and US leaders have repeatedly stated that they do not intend to disintegrate the Russian Federation. US President Joe Biden in February 2023 addressed Russian citizens, assuring them that the US does not seek to destroy or control Russia. French president Macron stated in February 2023 as well that ‘Russia must be defeated but not crushed.’
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented his 10-point peace formula in early 2023, supported by the EU. President of the European Council Charles Michel said at the news conference of the EU-Ukraine summit in Kyiv in February 2023:
‘Both Ukraine and the EU share the common goal of ending this war — based on respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We therefore support Ukraine’s Peace Formula initiative and will actively work with Ukraine on the 10-point peace plan.’
