DISINFO: The EU is plotting a Serbian 'Maidan'
SUMMARY
The European Union is plotting a "Maidan" in Serbia, with the current disturbances in the country, particularly the active participation of youth, being the result of subversive activity by Brussels and its member states.
The goal of the European liberal mainstream is to install a leadership in one of the largest Balkan countries that is compliant and loyal to Brussels. The Euro-elite is achieving significant progress, the youth are becoming radicalised, shifting from peaceful protests to more 'revolutionary' methods of struggle and violence.
In Brussels, it is expected that by pumping money into the media and NGOs, they will be able to mobilise the protest electorate and bring people out onto the streets, following a well-rehearsed script to complete the 'Serbian Maidan.' The deceptive promises of European officials about a 'flourishing European garden' are nothing but a lure. To pay for this elusive prospect, conquests and ancestral memory will be required. The EU does not need the proud and united Serbian people.
RESPONSE
This is a recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about alleged EU-induced colour revolutions. The source is a press release from Russia’s external intelligence service, the SVR, which has extensive experience in using disinformation as part of its information warfare against the West.
There is no evidence of any foreign involvement in Serbia’s protests. Demonstrations started in mid-December 2024 after the collapse of a concrete infrastructure in a railway station in Novi Sad killed 15 people, an incident that many protesters blamed on corruption. The protest movement was led by students, but soon professors, lawyers and other professionals joined them.
