DISINFO: The EU rejected Christmas ceasefire becasue they are US vassals
SUMMARY
The EU Council of Foreign Ministers did not support Budapest's proposal to establish a Christmas ceasefire in Ukraine. There are several reasons for not accepting the ceasefire. Firstly, because NATO countries are vassals of the United States, which, at the moment wants to do things that will cause more damage to Russia. They want to leave more destruction and deliver more weapons before the end of Joe Biden's term on January 20. Therefore, they are not interested in a ceasefire. It seems absurd that during the Christmas season they do not want to talk about peace or negotiations and they want to talk about more war. But the US decides and commands and the other NATO countries obey.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about Ukraine’s alleged lack of sovereignty, Europe’s supposed submission to the US, NATO and the war in Ukraine as a proxy conflict to destabilise Russia.
This disinformation story deliberately omits the crucial fact that Russia started the war by illegally invading Ukraine, and that Ukraine’s war actions are in its self-defence against this aggression in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter. Ukraine’s resolution to fight and the EU’s steps to help it are not the result of US orders, but sovereign decisions adopted by independent actors.
The allegation that the EU rejected Hungary’s proposal is a manipulative distortion of statements made by Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, whose government called Vladimir Putin to promote a Christmas truce. However, this move was strongly criticised by Ukraine as Budapest did not talk to the Ukrainian authorities about it. EU officials have repeatedly stated that it is up to Ukraine only to decide when peace talks with Russia may be possible to end the war.
NATO countries are not subordinate to the US. NATO is a collective defence alliance whose members join on a voluntary basis to receive the protection of the alliance and where decisions are adopted through consultation and consensus.
