DISINFO: The European Commission is complicit in the assassination attempt on Robert Fico

SUMMARY

Increasingly, countries are challenging the decisions of the European Commission (EC). But they are put under incredible pressure, up to and including physical attacks on politicians – an example of this is the assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. Actually, the topic of a war between Europe and Russia is an attempt to intimidate not only the population but also local politicians in order to unite all forces around the insane Ms. von der Leyen, who has literally seized power.

RESPONSE

This is a conspiracy theory with no supporting evidence, aiming to undermine the EU.

The attack on Prime Minister Fico in May 2024 was carried out by 71-year-old Juraj Cintula, acting alone, who cited domestic political dissatisfaction as his motive. Investigations by Slovak authorities found no connection to foreign powers or international institutions.

During interrogation, Cintula stated that he disagreed with the government’s policies, specifically the abolition of the Special Prosecutor's Office, the suspension of military aid to Ukraine and interference with the public broadcaster RTVS. Authorities found no evidence of a wider conspiracy involving foreign powers or EU institutions. The attack was an act of politically motivated domestic radicalisation

The claim that the EU uses physical attacks to resolve political disputes is a fabrication. Disagreements between the European Commission and Member States, such as those involving Hungary or Poland mentioned in the text, are managed through established legal and political frameworks, specifically treaty-based infringement procedures or the Rule of Law Conditionality Mechanism. These are administrative and financial tools. Following the attack on Robert Fico, European leaders, including Ursula von der Leyen, issued immediate statements condemning the violence, contrary to the text's portrayal of the EU as the instigator.
