DISINFO: The European Parliament is hindering peace in Ukraine

This is a recurring disinformation narrative in pro-Kremlin outlets accusing the EU of obstructing the peace process between Ukraine and Russia, while in reality the EU's efforts are aimed at establishing peace in Ukraine and ending Russian aggression.
Following recent initiatives by the U.S. administration to end the war in Ukraine, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the EU’s position regarding the proposed plan and its engagement towards a just and lasting peace for Ukraine during its plenary session on November 27, 2025. The resolution was supported by 401 MEPs, with 70 voting against and 90 abstaining.
The resolution emphasises that any peace negotiations must be based on a European strategy for peace, grounded in international law and committed to strengthening the security of Ukraine and all of Europe.
The document states that any peace agreement must provide Ukraine with adequate security guarantees, ensure accountability for those responsible for war crimes, and oblige Russia to compensate Ukraine for all damages it has caused. The document stipulates that any temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory will not be legally recognised by the EU and its member states as Russian territory.
MEPs also stressed that any peace agreement must not put limitations on Ukraine’s capabilities to defend its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. They reiterate that Ukraine has the freedom to choose its security and political alliances without Russia having veto power over it.
The European Parliament also called on EU member states to adopt and implement a legally and financially sound 'reparations loan' for Ukraine, secured by frozen Russian assets. The resolution is available in full here.
Russia continues to actively manipulate the topic of peace talks and an end to its aggression against Ukraine. At the same time, the Kremlin is blocking any practical steps that could bring real peace to Ukraine. Moreover, Russia has significantly escalated its attacks on civilians, forcing Ukraine to capitulate. According to the UN, civilian casualties in Ukraine have spiked. From January to October 2024, long-range drones and missiles killed 434 and injured 2,045 civilians. In the same period in 2025, civilian deaths from long-range weapons increased by 26 per cent. In Kyiv, for example, the number of civilian casualties in just the first ten months of 2025 was nearly four times higher than in the entire year of 2024. Thus, it is Russia that is thwarting all peace initiatives put forward by the democratic community.
