DISINFO: The European Union is an enemy of the national sovereignty of its member states
SUMMARY
The European Union is an enemy of the national sovereignty of its member states and wants to destroy European ethnic nationalities by means of its anti-white policies. The EU allows immigrant invaders to easily enter Europe.
RESPONSE
This article combines three recurrent and inter-related pro-Kremlin narratives. The first narrative claims that the EU has robbed member-states of their sovereignty, the second suggests that the EU seeks to destroy European ethnic nationalities, and the third accuses the EU of allowing uncontrolled migration into Europe.
These narratives are often spread by pro-Kremlin outlets in order to promote euro-scepticism in Europe. The European Union (EU) is an international organisation comprising 27 member states, governing common economic, social, and security policies. It is not true that the European Union is the enemy of the popular sovereignty of its Member States. The European Union is explicit on the subject of national sovereignty: “the Member States all remain sovereign and independent states, they have decided to pool some of their ‘sovereignty’ in areas where it makes sense to work together.”
The aims and values on which the European Union is founded are linked to the pursuit of peace, the well-being of its citizens, freedom, security and justice. The EU safeguards democracy and the rule of law is one of the fundamental pillars of the Treaty on European Union, according to which everything the EU does is founded on treaties, voluntarily and democratically agreed by its EU countries.
There is no evidence to support the article’s claim that the EU seeks to destroy European ethnic groups. This claim is consistent with the “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory, an anti-immigrant and pro-white supremacy narrative spread by right-wing extremist actors and amplified by some pro-Kremlin outlets. This theory suggests that immigrants are invaders who are colonising Europe thanks to the complicity of “globalist élites”, posing an existential threat to European ethnic nationalities.
Moreover, it is not true that the EU allows uncontrolled migration. The European Union has adopted specific policies on irregular migration in order to cope with the migration crisis of recent years, mainly through the control of external borders and return agreements with migrants' countries of origin, as well as strict laws to counter migrant smuggling.
Read similar cases claiming that EU laws threaten the sovereignty and integrity of European nation-states and that the European Union is “committing suicide” by letting in the invading hordes from the Middle East and North Africa.
