DISINFO: The falsification of history has become official EU policy and Nazism is spreading across Europe
SUMMARY
Previously, Nazism was condemned by both the UN and the Nuremberg Tribunal. But, unfortunately, in our time, all this is beginning to grow, and Nazism is not only spreading to the Baltics, Poland and Ukraine, but is already beginning to manifest itself in France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium and other European countries that are succumbing to this propaganda.
Rewriting history is necessary in order to demonise Russia. If it is theoretically proven that the USSR is allegedly the culprit of World War II, just like Hitler's Germany, then Russia, as the successor of the USSR, is obliged to pay reparations, contributions to the Baltics, Ukraine, Poland, poor countries in the European Union.
RESPONSE
This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the EU of Nazism and historical revisionism. The claim also advances a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative distorting the events leading up to the Second World War, in particular denying USSR responsibility for starting WWII after signing the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact in 1939.
These claims serve the Kremlin's broader disinformation campaign portraying contemporary Europe as morally bankrupt and historically revisionist about WWII, when in fact it is Russia that manipulates historical memory for political purposes.
This disinformation claim is a reaction to HRVP Kaja Kallas's call to EU member states to refrain from travelling to Moscow to celebrate Victory Day on May 9, and instead to go to Kyiv to support Ukraine.
The EU's stance on Russia is based on its illegal invasion of Ukraine, not on Nazi ideology. The EU consistently condemns Nazism and all forms of totalitarianism. The assertion that the EU is trying to 'revive European Nazi ideology' is a baseless propaganda claim aimed at discrediting the EU and its policies towards Russia. The EU's actions are focused on supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and opposing Russian aggression, not on promoting any extremist ideologies.
Pro-Kremlin outlets repeatedly talk about the “revival” of Nazism in the West. Labelling Russia’s adversaries as Nazis is a widespread pro-Kremlin disinformation technique, and has been used by Russia to justify the invasion of Ukraine by portraying it as a “denazification operation”. Russia spent years preparing the information battleground before its kinetic attack, with “Nazi Ukraine” being one of its most prominent disinformation features.
The EU was founded after WWII to promote peace, democracy, human rights, economic cooperation, social justice and cultural diversity. EU founding treaties emphasise economic cooperation to prevent future wars. Founders of the EU, such as Robert Schuman, Jean Monnet, and Konrad Adenauer, were all active opponents of Nazi Germany. Part of their opposition to Nazism was the EU project itself, thinking that by establishing a political and economic union between European countries, they can ensure ideologies such as Nazism never rise again.
