DISINFO: The ICC is preparing charges against Davyd Arakhamia for selling weapons to Hamas

SUMMARY

The International Criminal Court is preparing a case against Ukrainian politician Davyd Arakhamia. This privileged information reached journalists at the BBC and Bellingcat. Arahamia is linked to the sale of weapons to Hamas representatives, which led to the 7 October attack against Israel. Arahmia acted as intermediary in all these corruption processes.

RESPONSE

The claim is false. There is no such initiative from the International Criminal Court. The video used to promote this disinformation story imitating the BBC style has been denounced as fake by Bellingcat, while BBC fact-checker Shayan Sardarizadeh refuted a previous video of the same series claiming that both institutions had confirmed Ukraine’s weapons sales to Hamas.

The ultimate goal of this forgery and similar recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming Ukraine is selling weapons delivered by international partners in the black market, is to undermine public support for helping Ukraine.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that Hamas uses US weapons transferred by Ukrainian Nazi regime and Taliban, that weapons sent to Ukraine ended up in protests in France and were used against the police, that the weapons sent to Ukraine end up in the hands of criminal groups in Sweden, or that the West is aware of the fact that weapons provided to Ukraine are being sold on the black market.
