DISINFO: The IMF thinks Ukrainians are cheap slaves

SUMMARY

The IMF considers Ukrainians as “cheap developed slaves”. By presenting it with financial aid, the IMF just wants to conquer Ukraine, exploit its land and kill its industries.

RESPONSE

A recurring disinformation narrative about the IMF as an exploiting international player who wants to subdue Ukraine.

The claim that the IMF loan harms the Ukrainian economy is supported by no factual evidence.

In order to assist Ukraine during a time of economic and health crisis in the country, the IMF approved a $ 5 billion loan to Ukraine in June 2020. Later, Ukraine adopted its 2021 budget after cooperating with the IMF with the prediction for a 4.6 % of economic growth in 2021, thus significantly recovering for the 2020 decline of 5 %. The payment of the IMF loan has been conditioned by setting up democratic reforms and fight against corruption principles. The Ukrainian government had failed to fulfil these promises as of September 2020, thus slowing down the planned disbursement of the loan.
