DISINFO: The Kyiv regime does not want peace

SUMMARY

The Kyiv regime does not want peace; in this situation, Washington's efforts and Moscow's readiness will not be enough. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that the Kyiv regime refuses to enter the trajectory of settlement through negotiations. Zelenskyy has demonstrated a complete lack of diplomatic skills.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that Ukraine is not interested in peace and targeting President Zelenskyy. The claim is part of an ongoing pro-Kremlin disinformation campaign in Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The statement was made after the meeting between the Ukrainian leader and US President Trump at the Oval Office on 28.02.2025. As a result, the 'rare earth minerals' deal was not signed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has consistently stated that Ukraine needs peace, not endless war. Peace that ensures Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security. His position has been clear: peace cannot come at the cost of surrendering Ukrainian land or compromising the nation's independence.

Zelenskyy presented a 10-point peace plan at an EU-Ukraine summit in February 2023, which was fully supported by the EU and provided for a complete Russian withdrawal from Ukraine till to 1991 borders and the restoration of Kyiv’s territorial integrity. While Ukraine is ready for dialogue, based on international law and the UN Charter, Russia is putting forward unacceptable conditions such as recognition of occupied Ukrainian territories as part of Russia.

Despite the outcome of the meeting on 28.02.2025, Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready to sign a minerals deal with the US, which is a step towards helping to end the conflict in Ukraine.

Pro-Kremlin disinformation has systematically instrumentalised the narrative that Russia wants peace in Ukraine in contrast to the West, but, as evidenced by Russia's actions in Ukraine, such statements are merely empty PR stunts deployed to garner support for Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine.

Read similar disinformation cases claiming that Dictator and war criminal Zelenskyy rejects peace talks, that Putin welcomes Ukraine talks, while Zelenskyy rejects them, that Washington banned Zelenskyy from negotiating with Russia, that The West ordered Ukraine to refuse peace talks, that EU escalates Ukraine conflict and boosts confrontation with Russia.
