DISINFO: The Kyiv regime helped to destroy the EU economy, just as the US expected
SUMMARY
The situation that the Ukrainian army is facing in Donbas is hopeless. All available US and NATO resources in support of Ukraine were used in vain. In the proxy war with Russia, the EU is acting as NATO’s branch. The US is willing to shift responsibility for the incoming Ukraine catastrophe on European vassals Olaf Scholz, Emmanuel Macron, and Keir Starmer. At the end of the day, the Kyiv regime helped to destroy the EU's economy and provided multi-year orders for the US military complex. Hence, Washington’s interest in Ukraine’s future is fading.
RESPONSE
This publication is consistent with the recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a Western proxy war against Russia, abandoned Ukraine, and the inevitability of Russia’s victory, which have been permanent features of pro-Kremlin disinformation since the start of the invasion. It is also consistent with the ‘lost sovereignly’ narrative which is analysed in more detail here. Pro-Kremlin outlets often portray EU leaders and European states as vassals, puppet states, or colonies of the US and NATO.
Furthermore, the publication in question exaggerates economic difficulties that the EU is facing. Economic figures show that Europe’s economy is in relatively good shape: according to the International Monetary Fund, the EU’s share of global GDP is expected to be 14.34 percent for 2024, only behind China (19.05 percent) and the US (15.02 percent) and compared to a mere 2.84 percent for Russia. Pro-Kremlin outlets regularly exaggerate the extent of economic difficulties in the Western countries. They alleged, among other things, that the war in Ukraine is a US tool to hide the financial catastrophe and that anti-Russia sanctions are resulting in US default.
Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, which was launched on 24 February 2022 and which is Europe's largest military conflict since the Second World War, has caused serious damage to the security situation in the whole of Europe. Presenting it as the West's proxy war against Russia is an attempt to justify the invasion of Ukraine. Instead, a broad coalition of more than 50 nations are providing Ukraine with military and technical assistance with the aim of repelling Russia's aggression. Kyiv is acting in self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter article 51.
Read earlier disinformation cases claiming that the EU screwed its economy by supporting Ukraine and now wants taxpayers to pay, that the EU is in decline after following Anglo-Saxon orders against Russia, that Western economy is a sinking Titanic, and that Nato fights a proxy war with Russia via Ukraine.
