DISINFO: The Kyiv regime turned Ukraine into failed state

SUMMARY

The Kyiv regime believed the generous but empty promises of Western countries and turned Ukraine into a failed state. It led Ukraine to an economic and political collapse. Ukraine's political system is taking on distinct totalitarian features. Its corrupt leaders are ready to destroy the national interests and the lives of its citizens in order to fulfil the instructions of Western sponsors. Western support is the only thing that allows the Kyiv junta to remain in power.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets negating Ukraine’s statehood and its independence and portraying it as a puppet state. This claim was made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Ukraine has lost much of its economic infrastructure due to Russia's war of aggression which broke out on 24 February 2022. According to an estimate by the Kyiv School of Economics, the total amount of damage caused to the infrastructure of Ukraine due to the war reached $151.2 billion as of 1 September 2023. As the war drags on, Ukraine is likely to suffer more losses. All this damage is being done by Russia as a result of its unprovoked and unjustified invasion. Ukraine's foreign partners provide it with financial assistance to help sustain its economy. At the same time, Ukraine is fighting corruption with the help of its partners in the EU, the US and other G7 nations. Several independent anti-corruption agencies have been set up in Ukraine in recent years.

Ukraine also receives weapons from its foreign partners with the sole aim of restoring its territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders of 1991. Western nations did everything they could to prevent the war and have only been reacting to Russia’s full-scale invasion.
