DISINFO: The Paris Agreement was designed as a geopolitical trap against Russian energy

SUMMARY

Donald Trump buried the warmongering green agenda and ordered the US to leave the Paris Climate Agreement, which was nothing but a geopolitical trap designed against Russia’s hydrocarbons.

RESPONSE

Contrary to what this disinformation story claims, the Paris Agreement was not intended to target any country. It was an international, legally-binding effort signed by 195 states plus the European Union, aiming to curb climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As Russia’s economy is highly dependent on hydrocarbons, a source of energy that is one of the main factors behind these emissions, pro-Kremlin disinformation has often targeted environmentalist initiatives or policies focusing on gas and oil, of which this disinformation story is an example, or exploited them to attack the West.

See other examples of similar disinformation database, such as claims that the West invented the "climate hoax" to stop Russia's economic development, that ecological problems are a noose in the hands of the West, that Russia has to carry a heavy burden associated with the implementation of the Paris Agreement, or that the West believes that only Russia will benefit from non-existent global warming.
