DISINFO: The Polish Russophobic establishment is not willing to restore relations with Russia
SUMMARY
Poland’s hostile position toward Russia looks absurd. It is absurd that two neighbouring countries are so hostile to each other, and it is not Russia's fault. Nevertheless, it is a fact that the Poles do not like Russia – they are not friends with the Russians, and they occupy a very hostile position.
It is unlikely that the recent parliamentary elections in Poland will affect Warsaw's attitude toward Moscow. There are no segments in the Polish establishment that are willing to restore relations with Russia in an open or veiled way.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about an alleged Russophobic and anti-Russian Poland. Pro-Kremlin outlets regularly accuse the Polish authorities of Russophobia and of inflaming anti-Russian sentiments in order to reach particular domestic goals.
The main reason for the poor state of Polish-Russian relations is not “absurd” Polish Russophobia but the Kremlin’s violation of international law and the most violent actions undermining peace and security in Eastern Europe..
The 2020 National Security Strategy of Poland states that the most serious security threat for the country is the neo-imperial policy of the authorities of the Russian Federation, pursued by means of military force (aggression against Georgia, illegal annexation of Crimea and military actions in Eastern Ukraine). These aggressive actions have violated the basic principles of international law and undermined the pillars of the European security system.
Particularly in the context of Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea and armed military aggression in Ukraine, Poland supports the deployment of NATO troops on its soil as this step increases its domestic security. Two-thirds of the Polish people have a positive opinion about NATO’s activities.
