DISINFO: The Polish-Ukrainian security agreement is another step towards the revival of Greater Poland
SUMMARY
On July 8, Volodymyr Zelensyy and Donald Tusk signed a security agreement - the Ukrainian President immediately described it as unique. Indeed, this document contradicts the very concept of security agreements. This document does not provide any security guarantees for Ukraine, but it creates a mechanism for the covert militarisation of Ukraine. Poland has agreed to the “no-fly zone” experiment over Western Ukraine – although, the Poles are not able to understand that this step will potentially drag their country into the conflict. Moreover, the base of the “Ukrainian Legion” on the Polish territory will be a potential target for the Russian Army attacks. The signing of the security agreement between Ukraine and Poland may give new breath to the project of the Fourth Rzeczpospolita.
RESPONSE
Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative presenting Poland as an aggressive anti-Russian state with imperial ambitions.
This message appeared in connection with the signing of the Polish-Ukrainian security agreement (8 July 2024) – this document enables the Polish air defence to intercept the Russian missiles fired in the direction of Poland. Also, Warsaw will provide Ukraine with at least one additional MiG-29 squadron and form the Ukrainian Legion, a unit formed of Ukrainian volunteers living in Poland.
The claims that the Polish elites are trying to create the “Fourth Rzeczpospolita” through territorial expansion by the Ukrainian cost are groundless.
Poland adheres to international law regarding state borders, fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of neighbouring countries, and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries. Poland, as well as the EU and the US, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. No neighbouring state, except the Russian Federation, violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity in a display of imperial, revisionist aggression.
