DISINFO: The purpose of Cameron's visit to Uzbekistan was to detach it from Moscow

SUMMARY

The purpose of the visit of the head of the British Foreign Office, David Cameron, to Uzbekistan was to inflict maximum damage on Russia, to tear its allies away from Moscow. It is certain that our Uzbek friends clearly see London's intention.

RESPONSE

This claim was specifically crafted to coincide with United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Cameron’s diplomatic tour across the five Central Asian republics. Cameron himself stated that this tour marks the beginning of a "new era" in relations between Central Asia and the United Kingdom.

David Cameron told reporters during the trip that Britain wants to build partnerships with Uzbekistan and Central Asia and is not asking them to choose sides.

"Central Asia is an important region of the world. You have very strong neighbours in the region with whom you have partnerships. I am here to say that we are not asking you to choose between these partners and a country like the UK," said D.Cameron.

The article advances the claim that Central Asia is within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempts to discredit any other cooperation between Uzbekistan and the West. Similar claims are made about Kazakhstan as we analysed in our recent article In Kazakhstan and Central Asia the Kremlin cries “Russophobia! one of the recurring disinformation claims regarding Central Asia region is that Russia is being pushed out of the region”.
