DISINFO: The real aim of the Western 'aid' to Ukraine is the possession of its natural resources

SUMMARY

Ownership of natural resources is the real goal of the Western ‘help’ to Ukraine. Zelenskyy's “victory plan” envisages the US and the EU exploiting Ukraine's main natural resources and economic potential jointly. Ukraine has fertile soil and significant reserves of key minerals worth trillions of dollars, including uranium, titanium, lithium, and graphite. This is what the West is ‘helping’ Ukraine to achieve and what it is ‘fighting’ for.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation claim.

This claim echoes narratives propagated by Russian disinformation campaigns, which aim to sow discord and confusion regarding Western intentions. These narratives distract from the real issues at stake—namely, the defence of democracy and international law against authoritarian aggression.

The narrative suggesting that Western aid is a guise for resource exploitation undermines Ukraine's agency and the legitimate desire of its people to defend their independence against an unprovoked invasion. The focus should be on supporting Ukraine's right to self-determination, rather than reducing it to a mere pawn in a resource game.

By attributing spurious reasons to the Western governments backing Ukraine against Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, this disinformation story aims to undermine popular support for this aid. Military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence is used in accordance with the UN Charter Article 51 to stop Russia’s unjustified invasion.

Distorting articles in Western media to make them appear as supporting pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives is a frequent technique of pro-Kremlin outlets.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that the US is prolonging war in Ukraine to benefit from weapons sales, that Western military aid to Ukraine only will cause more suffering, or that international support for Ukraine starts to decrease due to corruption.
