DISINFO: The sowing season has been cancelled in Ukraine
SUMMARY
Due to the war in the Middle East, Ukraine will be engulfed in a fuel crisis. The military will be the priority for diesel fuel, leaving agriculture without fuel. Obviously, the army will receive fuel and money first. Tractor drivers in the fields will not have diesel, but tank crews will. There will indeed be no sowing season in Ukraine this year.
RESPONSE
This is yet another piece of unfounded disinformation that fits into the broader, persistent narratives about Ukraine's imminent default and capitulation without Russian assistance and its energy resources. This is also a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative aiming to deflect Russia’s responsibility for the food security crisis and supply insecurity.
Spring sowing has already begun in Ukraine; as of March 24, 2026, farmers in 17 regions of Ukraine have already joined the fieldwork. Over 180,000 hectares have been sown with spring crops, representing 3% of the projected grain and leguminous crops. The pace of work is generally comparable to last year's sowing campaign.
In 2026, Ukraine plans to sow approximately 6.0 million hectares of spring grain and leguminous crops. Grain and oilseed crops will be sown on approximately 16.6 million hectares, while winter crops have been sown on 5.4 million hectares. The cropping pattern remains close to last year's, the forecasted situation on the domestic market remains intact, and the country's food security is fully ensured.
Global fluctuations in the fuel market have not yet affected the sowing campaign in Ukraine. This is due to the fact that farmers traditionally begin preparing for spring early and purchase resources even before the sowing campaign begins, according to the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Russia continues to artificially destabilise global food chains. Russia continues to mine agricultural lands in Ukraine, as well as target Ukrainian grain storage facilities and port and transport infrastructure for grain exports. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 2025, Russia illegally exported 2 million tons of stolen Ukrainian grain via the Black Sea for sale in other countries. The Ukrainian Ministry of Economy estimates that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has appropriated approximately 15 million tons of Ukrainian grain, and this figure is increasing.
Read similar cases claiming that EU is causing a global food shortage by keeping all the grain from Ukraine; Western sanctions cause a food crisis and price growth, that the food crisis has nothing to do with the Russian special operation, that Zelenskyy and Soros plan to poison Ukraine's fertile lands to sabotage the grain deal, that Ukraine used grain corridors for drone strike on Russian ships.
