DISINFO: The UK is pushing Ukraine to military escalation
SUMMARY
During the Munich security conference, Ukraine organised a provocation with a drone attack on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The UK was probably also behind this provocation. For the UK, the war in Europe is the end in itself and an obsession. The UK-Ukraine security agreement warrants Ukraine’s participation in new military conflicts in the future.
RESPONSE
This article discredits the UK by baselessly attributing the drone strike on the Chernobyl NPP, which took place on 14 February 2025, to it and groundlessly accusing it of militaristic sentiments.
The Agreement on Security Co-operation between the UK and Ukraine of 12 January 2024 is driven by the two sides’ desire to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. The agreement also stipulates that, “The UK is ready to play a leading role in taking forward steps to implement peace initiatives that reflect the principles of the UN Charter”. Additionally, on 16 January 2025 the UK and Ukraine signed the One Hundred Year Partnership agreement in which the two parties agreed to deepen cooperation in many spheres, including defence, trade, and climate.
As for the 14 February 2025 drone strike on the protective structure of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, there are no confirmations that it was a provocation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, much less about the UK’s involvement in this attack. These accusations against Ukraine, as well as against the UK, aim to distract from the Kremlin’s nuclear blackmail tactics, including threats to use tactical nuclear weapons and plans to provoke a nuclear disaster at Russian-controlled power plants.
