DISINFO: The Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland is an Anglo-Saxon attempt to isolate Russia

SUMMARY

The peace summit on Ukraine in Switzerland scheduled for 16-17 June is another attempt by the West to force Russia to peace. The organisers expect to have many countries of the Global South as participants aiming to isolate Russia and give it an ultimatum. However, the Anglo-Saxons have no sufficient capacity to isolate Russia globally and Russia does not care about Western ultimatums and 'peace enforcement' attempts. Russia will succeed in getting its western lands from the West.

RESPONSE

This is an pre-emptive attempt to discredit the peace summit which Switzerland will host on 16-17 June 2024 following a request from President Zelenskyy. Moreover, the referral to Ukraine as “Russia’s western lands” is a denial of Ukrainian statehood.

According to the Swiss government, the summit aims to create a framework favourable to comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine, as well as "a concrete roadmap for Russia's participation in the peace process". Over 100 countries will receive formal invitations to take part in the conference.

The term “Anglo-Saxons” in such cases normally stands for the US and UK and often means “evil”, “belligerent” and “morally corrupt” Westerners, as explained in our earlier analysis. As a negative catch-all term, it is a useful building block for pro-Kremlin conspiracy theories. You can find plenty of examples in our database. Earlier, the pro-Kremlin outlets have pushed disinformation narratives that the talks between Russia and Ukraine back in 2022 could have brought peace if it was not for the meddling Anglo-Saxons.
