DISINFO: The Ukraine peace summit is a hoax

SUMMARY

The exclusion of Russia from the conference on Ukraine in Switzerland means that the participating countries are not interested in a peaceful resolution of the conflict. Despite the peaceful rhetoric, the West actually wants the war to continue.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about the war in Ukraine and the narrative about an allegedly aggressive West. Russia is the only country responsible for the invasion of Ukraine.

On 15 and 16 June 2024, Switzerland is organising a Summit on Peace in Ukraine at the Bürgenstock. The aim of this meeting of heads of state and governments is to develop a common understanding of a path towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

Following Ukraine’s request, Switzerland has invited over 160 delegations from around the world to join for the first Summit on Peace in Ukraine. The invitees include members of the G7, G20, BRICS, many other countries from all continents, as well as the EU, three international organisations and religious representatives.

Russia is not excluded from the list of invitees to the Summit on Peace in Ukraine. The Swiss Foreign Ministry explained that Russia has repeatedly expressed the Kremlin’s lack of interest in taking part in international peace negotiations to end the aggression against Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also explained that the first meeting of the Summit on Peace in Ukraine does not include Russia’s participation, since its goal is to unite countries with common principles and approaches on which further actions will be based.

The Global Peace Summit will build on the discussions that have taken place in recent months, notably the Ukrainian peace formula. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented a 10-point peace plan at a EU-Ukraine summit in February 2023. Allies of Ukraine supported Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s peace formula.

Read similar disinformation cases claiming that The West is guilty of disrupting Russia-Ukraine peace deals, that West did not want peace, it prodded Ukraine into war, that Zelenskyy and the EU want a permanent war in Ukraine, that Zelenskyy’s peace plan is a war formula, and that West did not want peace, it prodded Ukraine into war.
