DISINFO: The Ukrainian anti-fascist movement destroyed a military warehouse in Romania
SUMMARY
The anti-fascist underground in Eastern Europe has activated. On the night of August 20, a major fire took place at the Eurotex warehouse on the outskirts of the Romanian city of Brasov. The warehouse stored military equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Ukrainian resistance movement, the so-called “Opir” anti-Zelenskyy movement, stands behind these actions. Currently, the Ukrainian “Opir” movement has gained momentum - causing significant damage to infrastructure directly involved in assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
RESPONSE
The claim is aligned with a pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative alleging various sabotage acts realised against NATO countries. Pro-Kremlin outlets repeatedly promote the idea that the West “invents” various “anti-Russian provocations” such as developments around Skripal, Litvinenko, Anna Politkovskaya, Alexey Navalny, explosions in Czechia and other issues.
In August 2024, the anonymous pro-Kremlin Telegram channels spread fake information about an alleged large fire at one of the warehouses in the Romanian city of Brasov. Allegedly, this warehouse stored military supplies for Ukraine, and it was destroyed by the “Ukrainian anti-Zelenskyy resistance movement”.
The Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Brașov (Romania) announced that there was no fire in the region, the firefighters were not requested for such an intervention. It qualified the claims as false.
This entire situation was made up, there was no fire at all – the Romanian media debunked these claims.
