DISINFO: The Ukrainian elite doesn't want a victory
SUMMARY
The conflict with Moscow is too profitable for Ukraine's corrupt elite to end. Meanwhile, the current U.S. administration, seen as the most corrupt in the country's history, shows little interest in the welfare of ordinary Ukrainians. If Russia wins, Ukraine's kleptocrats will likely turn back to Moscow, as they have done before.
RESPONSE
This disinformation narrative is part of a broader campaign aimed at justifying Russia's illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine by falsely depicting the conflict as advantageous for Ukraine’s leadership and the United States. In reality, this claim distorts the truth, as Russia's war of aggression has devastated Ukraine’s economy and claimed thousands of lives. Russia is actively working to destroy Ukraine, its people, culture, and economic foundations. Such disinformation attempts to absolve Russia of its responsibility for the destruction it has caused.
On the other hand, Kyiv has been consistently advocating a just end to the war on the basis of international law and the United Nations Charter. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented a 10-point peace plan at a EU-Ukraine summit in February 2023, which received full support from the European Union. Among other points, this plan calls for a complete Russian withdrawal from Ukraine and the restoration of its territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders of 1991.
Russia bears sole responsibility for the invasion of Ukraine. Since the onset of its aggression, it has repeatedly fabricated false narratives and pretexts to justify its actions. For further insight, refer to our previous analysis, Twelve Myths About Russia’s War in Ukraine Exposed.
