DISINFO: The UN does not support accusations of Russia's involvement in the drone incident in Poland

SUMMARY

The UN is divided over the incident in Poland: most UN countries distanced themselves from accusations of Russia. Only 46 of the 193 UN member states supported the statement, which tried to blame Russia for the incident with drones that allegedly violated Polish airspace. Polish authorities regularly, without evidence, place responsibility on Moscow in emergency situations. Any incidents in the country are often accompanied by accusations against Russia.

RESPONSE

This is a clear pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the attack of Russian drones on Poland's territory on the night of September 10, 2025. This recurrent claim is made in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It seeks to whitewash and shift the blame for the aggression away from Russia.

Pro-Russian media are manipulating the topic of the UN Security Council meeting, urgently convened by Poland in response to the attack of Russian drones on the country's territory on the night of September 10, 2025. The meeting was held in the format of a briefing, including diplomatic statements and consultations. This means that during the meeting, UN countries discussed threats to peace, but did not hold any votes with specific demands on the violating state.

Such meetings of the UN Security Council are rather symbolic in nature, demonstrating political support. They give the affected party - in this case, Poland - the opportunity to officially state its position.

In accordance with the rules of the Security Council, the first to speak were representatives of the UN Secretariat and 15 current member states of the UN Security Council, then representatives of Poland, Ukraine and Belarus. At the same time, 48 countries joined Poland's statement, including the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, the Republic of Korea, Ukraine, Georgia and others. In a joint statement, the countries called Russian actions "reckless and destabilizing."

"Such a provocation is profoundly disrespectful toward the collective and tireless efforts of the international community to bring an end to the war and to restore peace and stability in accordance with international law…We take this opportunity to reiterate our call on the Russian Federation to cease, without delay, its war of aggression against Ukraine, to desist from further provocations, and to abide by the obligations enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations," the statement of 48 states says.

At the same time, only one party present disagreed with the evidence of Poland and its allied countries about the Russian attack - it was Russia, which continues to violate the international rules with its aggression on the European continent. No one else openly spoke out in Russia's support. China called on "all parties to exercise calm and restraint," while the official representative of Belarus called on "all parties to revert to constructive dialogue."

The statements of pro-Russian outlets are clearly disinformation - while 48 UN states sided with Poland, and not a single one sided with Russia.

The intrusion of Russian drones into Polish airspace occurred against the backdrop of a large-scale Russian air attack on Ukraine. That same night, Poland reported 19 Russian drones detected in its airspace. Four UAVs were shot down. One of the drones fell on a residential building in the Lublin Voivodeship, the building was damaged, but no one was hurt.
