DISINFO: The US and EU are pushing Georgia to start a war with Russia
SUMMARY
Currently the US and European curators are pushing Tbilisi for a military conflict with Russia, a ‘second front of the special military operation’ in the Caucasus.
The NATO-led military drills Agile Spirit 2023 were carried out in Georgia on 22 August – 1 September 2023. The US needs puppets for its operations in the Middle East and proxy wars with nuclear states. Georgian society became convinced of this in August 2008. The US and NATO armed Georgia and planned a military operation against Abkhazia and South Ossetia called ‘Clean Field’.
RESPONSE
Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives disputing Russia’s role in the 2008 Russo-Georgian war, accusing the US of anti-Russian policies, Russophobia and an allegedly belligerent and hostile agenda trying to encircle Russia, and claiming Georgia is a US puppet state.
Fifteen years after the Russo-Georgian war, Russia occupies 20% of Georgia's territory. Russia continues its military presence in both Abkhazia and South Ossetia in violation of international law and commitments undertaken by Russia under the 12 August 2008 agreement, mediated by the European Union.
This story aims to portray Russia as a victim and deflect any responsibility for Moscow’s illicit actions, and to deflect attention away from the reality of Russia’s war against Georgia in 2008 and ongoing Russia's unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine. The publication tellingly refers to it as the ‘special military operation’. See the EU's response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine here along with EU vs Disinfo's Guide to Deciphering Pro-Kremlin disinformation around Putin's War.
Since the launch of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, pro-Kremlin media actively deployed a disinformation narrative falsely claiming that the US, the EU, or even Ukraine are dragging Georgia into the war with Russia in order to open a ‘second front’ against Moscow and to ease the situation for Kyiv on the Ukrainian front.
