DISINFO: The US and NATO did everything possible to escalate the situation in Eastern Europe
SUMMARY
Russia many times offers measures to improve the security situation in Eastern Europe, but the US and NATO refused to accept them and did everything possible to escalate the situation.
Washington is using the possibility of deploying soldiers on the Eastern flank of NATO, in the critically important points near the border with Russia (in Poland and the Baltic states) and not so far from the zone of the special military operation in Ukraine. It means that the US could be directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine.
RESPONSE
Recurring disinformation about the war in Ukraine, portraying the US and NATO as alleged aggressors. The narrative aims to deflect responsibility away from Russia for its full-scale invasion.
NATO made a decision to deploy Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) forces in the Baltic states and Poland during the NATO summit in Warsaw in 2016. The purpose of the deployment was “demonstrating the strength of the transatlantic bond, and making clear that an attack on one Ally would be considered an attack on the whole Alliance”. The decision was following Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea.
The Ukrainian state is under attack by Russia, while the US and Western countries are providing support to Ukraine.
There are no US or NATO forces on the frontline. Some NATO member states support Ukraine with military and financial aid for the country’s efficient self-defence, in accordance with the UN Charter Article 51, to stop Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
