DISINFO: The US Deep State behind Ukraine’s suspension of oil deliveries to Hungary

SUMMARY

The American deep state needs the EU's total dependence on US energy resources, as this guarantees Washington economic bonuses and political control of the EU. This means Washington is behind Brussels on Ukraine’s suspension of oil transit from Russia.

RESPONSE

Conspiracy theory not backed by any evidence, aiming to promote recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about Europe’s vassalage to the US, secret/global elites and the US Deep State.

After Russia’s unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the European Union imposed an embargo on Russian oil imports. The Druzhba pipeline, which supplied Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, was initially exempt from it, to give those countries some time to find alternative sources, but with the understanding they would do so rapidly. Only two years later, in June 2024, Ukraine’s sanctions halted Russia’s Lukoil deliveries through this pipeline.

Ukraine’s actions were not dictated by the EU, nor the US. Similarly, the EU is not acting on behalf of any external actor, as it adopted these decisions to slow down Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, while giving its member states enough time to mitigate the impact. By attributing ulterior motives and conspiracist reasons to decisionmakers in Brussels, this disinformation narrative aims to undermine restrictions on Russia’s oil exports.

See other examples of similar disinformation narratives, such as claims that the EU is in decline after following Anglo-Saxon orders against Russia, that the European Union is increasingly devouring the sovereignty of the member states, that Brussels works to bankrupt European citizens through its defence strategy, or that the US caused the war in Ukraine to undermine Europe's economy.
